SCRIPTS

THE BUSKER (2019)

'The Busker' was a script for a potential short film that I wrote in late 2019. It's a coming-of-age story centred around college student Charlotte; who befriends the homeless teenager who busks in the city centre near her campus. The script itself features themes of relationships, parental conflict, as well as a de-stigmatisation around the topic of homelessness. Inspired by films like 'Juno' and 'Adult Life Skills', my intention behind this script was to create a film that combined the handmade, rough aesthetic of indie films with the melodramatic storytelling of teen dramas. The story itself is reminiscent of a classic romantic drama, with a noticeable lack of actual romance - focusing instead on the platonic relationship between the two main characters.

BREAKING DOWN (2020)

'Breaking Down' was an adaptation of a script written originally by Gideon Ntim, and it was my first attempt at writing a script that featured notably psychological elements. I co-wrote this script alongside Emily Lock - who I have worked with on numerous projects in the past - with notes and supervision from Gideon himself. The script follows Blake; a young man who has spent the majority of his existence grappling with his own deteriorating mental state - which manifests itself in the form of the antagonistic Kaleb. The purpose of the story is to show that, sometimes, stability is something that one has to fight for - and not everyone makes it out of the struggle.

'Breaking Down' was released as a short film in February 2020. Watch it here.

AT A REACH (2020)

'At A Reach' is a comedy script that I had written during the summer of 2020, in the hopes that I would be able to shoot it once the COVID-19 pandemic had ended. The story centres around the attempts of the protagonist - Tim - as he tries to retrieve the TV remote without getting up from his seat, much to the dismay of his roommate, Joel. This script was inspired by the work of Edgar Wright and comedy duo Jack & Dean, in that it takes a clearly mundane situation, and blows it completely out of proportion. The story itself is an exaggeration of my own lazy tendencies, turned into a comedy sketch.

DEAD QUIET - ISOLATION (2021)

In my final year of college, my class collaborated on an anthology horror film entitled 'Dead Quiet'. Each story featured within the film was centred around a fear that the different characters had, and the story written by myself & writing partner Ethan Price was based on the fear of isolation. Our story sees Riley - the youngest of three siblings - waking up in a completely seemingly empty black room. As she explores the room, however, strange things start to happen...

THE SCARECROW (2022)

My first script written during my time at university, 'The Scarecrow' is a story about a desire to create, and the harsh reality that comes with it. It centres around young artist Jacob - who loves to bring his small town to life with his art - as he builds a scarecrow. After a local photographer posts a photo of it online, the scarecrow explodes in popularity, and it becomes a local tourist attraction. The story follows his resulting journey, as he comes to terms with the soaring highs and piercing lows of notoriety.

EXPOSURE (2022)

'Exposure' was the script written for the final project of my first year at university. A collaborative effort between myself, Charlie Clayton, and Elijah Crowther, this script follows the story of Arthur Rhodes - an aspiring film photographer - who struggles with confidence in his work as he starts to notice black markings obstructing his photos.

BEFORE FLOWERS BLOOM (2022)

Written as part of the Scriptwriting For Screen module at the University of Salford, 'Before Flowers Bloom' is a story adapted from the themes and premise of "Isolation" by Lucy Hayden. The story sees a group of teenagers drinking to commemorate the memory of a friend lost to suicide, but as they recall stories about their lost peer, attitudes and opinions start to become confused.

I THINK I'M AN ALIEN (2022)

During my second year at the University of Salford, I was tasked with making a film on my own that was personal to me. For me, that film was 'i think i'm an alien'. The story is based off of my own struggles with social understanding, relationships, and a general sense of alienation that have persisted throughout my life. The script follows Rusty - who, after yet another failed attempt at a date - confides in his friend, Edie, for guidance.
